The Connected Vehicle Trade Association (CVTA) is an international, non-profit trade association advancing the interests of industries involved in vehicle communications. Its lineage traces to 1999's Automotive Multimedia Interface Collaboration (AMI-C), whose specifications went on to shape the SAE J2735 DSRC Message Set, the OSGi Standard, and other foundational connected-vehicle standards. Scott McCormick, AMI-C's Executive Director, went on to found the VII Consortium in 2004 and then CVTA itself in 2005, bringing twelve founding companies together across every major industry sector.

CVTA's mission is to promote the value of the Connected Vehicle — advancing deployment for safety, mobility, and commercial applications, and maintaining an ongoing dialogue between public and private decision-makers. Membership is open globally to companies, universities, standards bodies, and public agencies, governed by a Board with one representative per industry sector, and supported by a global contact database of more than 30,000 individuals..

CVTA's signature achievement is the Connected Vehicle Professional (CVP) credentialing program, launched in 2015 with SAE International and Mobile Comply, which has certified several thousand professionals across the US, India, China, and Europe..

The association runs an annual International Summit on the Future of the Connected Vehicle, standing committees on security and training, and regular industry workshops. McCormick's own career spans advisory roles to the National Science Foundation, the UN's ITU-T, and Congress's ITS Program Advisory Committee, alongside a 2016 TU Automotive Hall of Fame induction.
